About SWCS

The Soil and Water Conservation Society (SWCS) is a nonprofit scientific and educational organization. The Montana Chapter of SWCS is made up of natural resource professionals from around the state. A variety of landscapes, climates, moisture regimes, types of agriculture and people can be found from one end of the state to another. There is a rich history of supporting natural resource issues around the state depending on the topics pertinent at the time. The board meets monthly via conference call. We try to get together at least once a year in person.
In MT we support technical events around the state. We have hosted two Soil Health Bus Tours to North and South Dakota (2017 and 2021). The Chapter typically contributes to the Soil Health Symposium and has nominated producers for the Leopold Award in the state.
Each year the scholarship committee selects worthy candidates pursuing degrees in the field of natural resources. See the Scholarship page for details.
The chapter offers educational resources for elementary age students in the form of EarthWise bracelets and soil painting kits. See the Getting Crafty page for more information.
